This past Saturday, Drift Spot opened up the 2012 season with our annual Drift “101″ clinic. The weather report seemed ominous, but as with all weather reports in New England, wait a minute and it will change, and change it did. Participants enjoyed the beautiful 75 degree day and took full advantage of the dry weather to hone their skills. This year’s event brought in 20 drivers, ready and willing to learn. Using one of 3 stations, each increasing in difficulty, drivers moved from simple donuts to larger circles and figure eights, with the final station being a mid-speed course designed to use all of the skills introduced at the previous stations.

New for 2012 was a limited, invite only, test & tune session. This session took place on the course and allowed the more experienced drivers to shakedown their vehicles and test out new setups in a low pressure environment. Even with the fun atmosphere, that didn’t stop some of the drivers from stepping up their practice and turning these simple runs into all out tandem battles. Judging by what we saw, this year’s competitions are going to be very interesting and exciting.

Those attending were treated to an appearance by local Formula D driver and special guest, Ryan Tuerck, in his personal car, a 240x with a 1JZ motor. Ryan is a huge supporter of grassroots drifting and was taking part in the test & tune. Unfortunately, a failed transmission ended his day early, but we are grateful for his time and willingness to help out.

Overall, it the clinic was a huge success, with all of the drivers advancing rapidly. Next up, is our first Drift Day on May 5th 2012. This will be the first open drift day of the season and the first opportunity for drivers to test into their appropriate classes. Registration is now open. With a limit of 35 drivers, register early to reserve your spot. Early registrants get a discount on the event entry fee, so don’t delay. See you all on May 5th.

NHMS 2012 “FANtasy Drive”

Like last year, we will have a booth set up at the NHMS Fantasy Drive on Saturday April 7th from 9 am to 4 pm. Come stop by our booth and hang out with our other members. We will running a few short drift demonstrations between 1 and 3 pm, so be sure to stick around for that. Drift “101″ and Schedule Update

Registration for the Drift “101″ clinic is now closed. Thanks to all our members who helped sell out the event in less than 2 days! We are taking requests for a waiting list, so if you are still interested, please send an email to registration@drift-spot.org with your information.

There has been a slight change in our schedule for 2012. Our first points event has been moved to July 7th from June 9th. This change moves us to the larger S1 lot at NHMS. The updated schedule is as follows:

April 21 – Drift “101″ Drift Clinic
May 5th – Drift Day
June 9th – Drift Day
July 7th – Drift Competition, Points Event #1
August 11th – Drift Day
September 8th – Drift Competition, “Fall Classic”, Points Event #2

Hi All and Happy Holidays! I am pleased to announce our Official 2012 Schedule. Since we are now holding competitions and allow tandem practice at our drift day events, please be sure to grab a copy of the 2012 Event and Technical Guidelines as there have been many changes. Registration is now open for our final event of the 2011 season, our annual “Fall Classic”. This event will take place on Sunday, September 11th, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, lot S3. Cost is $75 for pre-registration and $100 day of. Since this is the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we, along with SCCNH will be holding a charity drive throughout the day. We’ll have more details as we get closer to the event.

Also, we will have a tire machine on site. Cost is $25 per pair cash only!

The event is coming up fast. Hope to see you there!

“Freedom Drift” Recap

We were graced with beautiful blue skies and cool breezes at NHMS this past Saturday for “Freedom Drift”, our 3rd event of the season. With 32 drivers, “Freedom Drift” was our largest event at NHMS to date and the most enjoyable. Sticking with the same course as our last event, drivers were presented with two large left-handed sweepers that allowed from high speeds and large amount of tire smoke. The freshly sealed parking lot made things even more interesting as drivers had to contend with the higher speeds, hot weather and slick pavement.

Driver’s kept things exciting throughout the day. We were also able to pick up a few extra fans as NHMS was preparing for their first big NASCAR event of the season, the Lenox 301, being held next weekend. While most of the drivers chose to run a Nissan 240sx, we did have a few new cars including a Supercharged Mazda Miata, a Z31 Nissan 300zx turbo, and a late 90′s BMW 3 series. It’s refreshing to see different types of cars attending these events. It shows much drifting has grown in New England these past few years.

Our next event is our annual Fall Classic on Sunday September 11th. Take note, this is on Sunday and not our usual Saturday. We have some great stuff planned, so stay tuned. Also, a huge thank you to all the volunteers that came out. Without your help, we would not be able to put on these events.
